About Andrew Fernandez

Andrew Fernandez's career as a tattoo artist spans four years and multiple countries. Unlike artists who learned in a single shop, Andrew sought out mentorships and conventions across the US and Latin America — tattooing at the Milwaukee Tattoo Arts Festival, the Villain Arts 15th Annual Chicago Tattoo Art Festival, the 17th Annual Baltimore Tattoo Arts Festival, and the 16th Annual Minneapolis Tattoo Arts Festival.

That convention circuit gave Andrew experience that most studio-only artists don't get: working under pressure, adapting to different skin types and styles on the spot, and learning from some of the best in the industry. The result is a versatile approach rooted in realism and built for scale — the sleeves, backs, and multi-session custom pieces that give a concept room to breathe.

Originally from Tlaxcala in Mexico's Puebla region, Andrew's heritage infuses his work with cultural storytelling. Whether it's a religious portrait, a nature scene, or an abstract custom piece, his goal is the same — every tattoo should mean something. Andrew's philosophy centers on making each piece a unique story told through ink.

Andrew now focuses his chair on larger custom work, with a $300 project minimum, and spends the rest of his time mentoring Studio AZ's apprentices. Smaller pieces and fine line work go to Meg, who trains under him — so the work still comes out of the same room, and Andrew stays on the long-form projects his portfolio is built for.

Andrew Fernandez's Specialties

Realism & Portraits

Andrew's realism work is his strongest suit — portraits, religious imagery, animals, and nature scenes brought to life with depth and dimension. His convention experience gives him confidence with large, complex compositions.

Sleeves & Large-Scale Work

Andrew's chair is built for pieces that take more than one sitting. Full and half sleeves, back and chest work, and multi-session compositions where the design wraps and flows with the body rather than sitting on it.

Black & Grey

Andrew's black and grey portfolio features dramatic contrast and smooth tonal transitions, carried across bold sleeve work with the tonal range that large-scale pieces demand.

Custom Designs

Every custom piece Andrew's Minneapolis clients commission starts with a conversation. He pulls from his travels, his heritage, and your vision to create something entirely original.
